What is a crypto prop firm?
A crypto prop firm gives you simulated capital to trade perpetual futures, called perps, after you pass a challenge. A perpetual future is a contract that tracks the price of Bitcoin, another coin, or a tokenized asset, with no expiry date, and it trades around the clock. You pay a one-time challenge fee, hit a profit target without breaking the loss limits, and then keep a share of the profits on a funded account.
The funded account is still simulated at most firms, and the payout is the real part: Propr, for example, runs your trades as signals and copies some of them to Hyperliquid, while the rest stay internal with the same outcome for you.
What can you trade at a crypto prop firm?
Bitcoin and Ether are the two names on every list in our data, and most firms add Solana, XRP, and a set of altcoin perpetuals. Some firms go wider: Propr lists 160+ perpetuals across crypto, stocks, indices, commodities, and forex, while MyFundedPerps lists 122 markets across the same groups. Two firms keep the published list short: E8 Perpetuals names only BTC and ETH perpetuals, and Kraken Prop names BTC, ETH, SOL, HYPE, Nasdaq 100, and S&P 500.
Check the venue too, since it shapes fees and funding: E8 and Propr price from a Hyperliquid feed, Kraken Prop trades inside Kraken Pro, and Crypto Fund Trader routes some accounts through Bybit.
| Firm | What stands out |
|---|---|
| Breakout | 71 symbol rows plus tokenized S&P 500 and XYZ100 |
| BrightFunded | 48+ crypto pairs, plus forex, metals, and indices |
| E8 Perpetuals | BTC and ETH perpetuals only in published examples |
| Kraken Prop | 60+ crypto pairs including BTC, ETH, SOL, and HYPE |
| Propr | 160+ perpetuals across crypto, stocks, indices, commodities, and forex |
How does a crypto challenge work?
A challenge has two numbers you must respect at the same time: a profit target you must reach, and loss limits you must not break. The most common phase-1 target in our data is 10%, on 56 of the 158 rows that state a target, followed by 9% on 44 rows. The most common daily loss limit is 3%, on 90 of 167 rows, and the most common maximum loss is a static limit, on 123 of 167 rows.
Most crypto challenges have one step, and two-step plans usually ask for a smaller second target, such as 8% then 5% at BrightFunded and Crypto Fund Trader. Worked example: Breakout 1-Step Classic at $25,000 costs $215, with a 10% target of $2,500, a 3% daily loss limit of $750 recalculated from your balance at 00:30 UTC, and a 6% static maximum loss that sets a fixed floor at $23,500. There is no time limit and no consistency rule, so you can pass in one trade if the numbers allow it.
| Plan | Target | Daily loss | Maximum loss |
|---|---|---|---|
| Breakout 1-Step Classic | 10% | 3% | 6% static |
| BrightFunded 2-Step Bright | 8% then 5% | 4% | 8% static |
| E8 Pro Perpetuals | 8% | 2.5% | 8% static |
| MyFundedPerps 1-Step Select | 9% | 3% | 3% static |
| Kraken Prop Advanced | 9% | 3% | 3% static |
What does leverage do, and what limits apply?
Leverage is borrowed exposure: it lets a small margin control a larger position, so gains and losses both grow. At 10x, $1,000 of margin controls a $10,000 position, and a 1% move against you costs $100, which is 10% of your margin. Bitcoin leverage reaches 10x at Breakout, Kraken Prop, and Propr, while Ether is 5x at Breakout and 10x at Kraken Prop and Propr.
Altcoins sit lower, often 2x to 5x, and some firms cap smaller coins at 2x or 3x. Kraken Prop raised its caps in its August 18, 2026 blog post, and the table below uses those current values, not the older up to 5x summary that still circulates. Treat leverage as headroom, not a target: the loss limits, not the leverage cap, decide whether your account survives.
| Market | Leverage cap |
|---|---|
| BTC | 10x |
| Nasdaq 100 | 10x |
| S&P 500 | 10x |
| SOL | 5x |
| HYPE | 3x |
What do fees and commissions cost?
You pay twice: once for the challenge fee, and again on every trade through commission and overnight funding. Commission is often a flat percent per side: 0.04% at Breakout, WenCrypto, and Kraken Prop, 0.03% per fill at MyFundedPerps, and 0.012% per side on crypto at BrightFunded. On a $10,000 Bitcoin position, 0.04% per side costs $4.00 to open and $4.00 to close, which is $8.00 for the round trip before spread and slippage.
Holding overnight adds funding: a fixed 0.033% per day at Breakout and WenCrypto, which is $3.30 a day on $10,000, or a live venue funding rate at E8 and Propr that changes with the market. Small, frequent trades feel commission most, so a low challenge fee can still mean a high trading cost.
| Firm | Commission | Overnight funding |
|---|---|---|
| Breakout | 0.04% per side | 0.033% per day |
| BrightFunded | 0.012% per side on crypto | Charged past rollover, rate shown on platform |
| E8 Perpetuals | Maker 0.015%, taker 0.045% per side | Live Hyperliquid funding, hourly |
| MyFundedPerps | 0.03% per fill | 0.03% per day, charged hourly |
| WenCrypto | 0.04% per side | 0.033% per day |
How do payouts work?
Every firm in our data starts at an 80% split by default, so on $1,000 of profit you keep $800 and the firm keeps $200. Some firms let you raise that split at checkout: Breakout offers 90% as a checkout upgrade, E8 offers 90% or 100% on its One plan, and Kraken Prop offers 90% with an upgrade. Timing varies more than the split: Breakout, Propr, and Kraken Prop pay on demand, MyFundedPerps pays daily on most plans, BrightFunded pays first after 30 days and then every 14 days, and WenCrypto pays every 10 business days.
Minimums range from $20 at Propr and WenCrypto to $50 at Breakout, $100 at MyFundedPerps and For Traders, and $150 at BEM Funding on its One terms. Worked example: on Propr Classic at $25,000, which costs $275, a $1,000 funded profit pays $800 in USDC on demand, with no waiting period and no limit on requests, and each payout sweeps all available profit. Funded-stage catches apply: E8 Pro holds part of shown profit as a buffer, WenCrypto caps the first withdrawal at 6%, and BEM One Only requires a buffer of at least half the daily drawdown amount after a reward.
| Firm | Split | Schedule | Minimum |
|---|---|---|---|
| Breakout | 80%, 90% with upgrade | On demand | $50 |
| Propr | 80% | On demand | $20 |
| Kraken Prop | 80%, 90% with upgrade | On demand | No official minimum stated |
| MyFundedPerps | 80% | Daily, on demand on Elite | $100 |
| BrightFunded | 80%, up to 100% with scaling | First after 30 days, then every 14 days | No firm minimum |
| WenCrypto | 80% | Every 10 business days | $20 |
What rules catch people out?
The challenge rules are only half the story, since several firms tighten the rules once you are funded. BrightFunded bans opening or closing around high-impact news on funded accounts, within 5 minutes either side, and MyFundedPerps restricts funded trading in a window around news releases. Consistency rules also appear at the funded stage: BEM One caps any single day at 35% of total profit at a reward request, For Traders Fast Pro caps a Master day at 35%, and E8 One caps a funded day at 40% of the cycle profit.
Inactivity ends accounts quietly: WenCrypto needs a trade every 28 days, while funded MyFundedPerps and For Traders Instant accounts need activity every 7 days. A breach is final at most firms: positions close, the account is disabled, and you must buy a new challenge to restart.
How common is each rule? What our data shows
The counts below come from the 10 crypto firms we track, covering 167 challenge rows in October 2026. Static maximum loss dominates, and the 3% daily limit is the single most common daily rule. The median $100,000 price is $545 across the 26 rows that show a dollar price at that size.
WenCrypto's $20 at that size is an entry fee only, with $589 due on passing, so it is not a full challenge price. Two honesty notes: Breakout's $100,000 Classic price is third-party-only and its $50,000 Classic price is unpublished, so neither is used as a worked example here. Crypto Fund Trader's own site could not be reached in the October 2026 check, so its figures come from earlier official pages and are not freshly verified.
| Maximum loss type | Rows |
|---|---|
| Static | 123 |
| Trailing in some form | 43 |
| Not available | 1 |
How common is each phase-1 target?
The most common phase-1 target is 10%, followed by 9%, and the full spread shows why one firm's target tells you little on its own. Of the 167 rows, 158 state a target and 9 do not, because instant and no-evaluation plans have no pass target to state. Two-step plans are the minority here, and their second target is usually smaller than the first.
When you compare firms, match the target to the loss limits beside it: a 12% target beside a 5% static cap is a different trade from a 9% target beside a 3% static cap.
| Phase-1 target | Rows |
|---|---|
| 10% | 56 |
| 9% | 44 |
| 12% | 22 |
| 8% | 20 |
| 5% | 6 |
| 6% | 5 |
| 4% | 5 |
| No target stated | 9 |
How do you pick a crypto prop firm?
Start from the loss limits, not the leverage cap, and check the funded rules as well as the challenge rules. Add up the full cost: the challenge fee plus commission and funding on the way you actually trade. Then check the payout schedule and minimum against how often you want to withdraw.
Read the review picture with care: Breakout rates 4.7 from 1,231 Trustpilot reviews, MyFundedPerps 4.7 from 209, and Propr 4.4 from 67, while BrightFunded, E8, and BEM Funding hide their scores behind a guidelines warning. Crypto Fund Trader has no live Trustpilot profile, Kraken Prop has no prop-specific profile and its exchange rating must not be read as a program rating, and WenCrypto has no profile at all. Prop trading can cost you every fee you pay, so only pay for a challenge whose rules you have read in full.
Frequently asked questions
Do I trade real money at a crypto prop firm?
No. You trade a simulated account at most firms, and the payout is the real part. Propr runs your trades as signals and copies some to Hyperliquid, with the rest recorded internally at the same outcome for you.
What leverage can I get on Bitcoin?
Bitcoin leverage reaches 10x at Breakout, Kraken Prop, and Propr. Ether is 5x at Breakout and 10x at Kraken Prop and Propr, while altcoins often sit at 2x to 5x, so check the cap for the coin you trade.
How much does a $100,000 crypto challenge cost?
The median price is $545 across the 26 rows in our data that show a dollar price at $100,000. Entry-fee-only plans are not full prices: WenCrypto charges $20 now and $589 on passing at that size.
When do I get paid?
It depends on the firm. Breakout, Propr, and Kraken Prop pay on demand, MyFundedPerps pays daily on most plans, BrightFunded pays first after 30 days and then every 14 days, and WenCrypto pays every 10 business days.
Can I use bots or copy trading?
It varies by firm, so check the rules before you buy. Propr is API-first and permits automated strategies, WenCrypto does not permit expert advisors, and Breakout bans third-party signals and copy trading ideas from other traders.
What happens if I break a rule?
A breach closes your positions and disables the account at most firms, including Breakout and Propr, and you must buy a new challenge to restart. There is no paid reset at Propr, so a breach is final there.
Prop trading carries a real risk of losing every fee you pay. This article is general information, not financial advice. Always read the firm's own rules before you buy.
How we got these numbers
Based on 167 challenge rows across the 10 crypto firms we track (October 2026), of which 158 state a phase-1 target and 26 $100,000 rows show a dollar price; the median $545 uses those 26 rows.
