A scaling plan is a funded-stage arrangement where your account size grows as you reach profit milestones. Hit the milestone, and the firm raises your capital, sometimes alongside a higher profit split. The idea is simple: traders who have already proved they can make money are trusted with more of it.
Scaling is never automatic in the sense of being free. FundedNext's plan, for example, scales funded accounts up to $4,000,000 on achieving 10% cumulative profit over 4 consecutive months, and the loss limits are recalculated on the new size. Other firms set different milestones, longer waits, or extra conditions, such as a minimum number of payout cycles before the increase. Scaling terms differ from plan to plan, so the milestone and the new terms both need checking.
This matters because a scaled account changes your risk in both directions. A bigger account means bigger dollar profits on the same percentage gains, but the loss limits are also bigger in dollars, which can tempt a trader into positions they would never take on the original size.
The common trap is counting on scaling before it happens. A trader who buys a plan for its scaling headline and then never reaches the first milestone has paid for a feature they never used. We recommend comparing the starting terms first, and treating scaling as a bonus, not the reason to buy. Prop trading can cost you every fee you pay.
